Debian-news is about one simple thing - news about Debian GNU/Linux and the top free distributions based on Debian GNU/Linux.

MEPISLite is born.

The folks at MEPIS has created a lightweight distribution to ease the migration path for Win98 users – MEPISLite.
The release announcement says:

MEPISLite is designed for home users with modest hardware and for those who want to use a light-weight version of MEPIS with a MEPIS Traveller Disc.

MEPISLite is intended to provide an easy migration path for most Windows 98 users. It is also an ideal alternative to Windows for preinstallation on new computers.

MEPISLite is similar to SimplyMEPIS, except that some packages have been changed to improve performance.
