Knoppix 4.0 review
Flavio's TechnoTalk have had a good look at Knoppix 4.0 DVD and had to raise the question “Is more better?”
As they put it in the conclusion from the article
Quote:
Knoppix got to a point where it truly masters the art of the Live CD creation. It may be time to start adding some more judgment on usability, and on what it should be included, or perhaps the way that it should be included.Maybe all those applications really belong in there. But there are always ways to make items more accessible to the end user:
What about creating different desktops per areas of competency (one desktop could be system rescue tools, another one could be penetration testing tools, a third one could be office tools, a fourth one could be entertainment, etc.). Even if certain items are repeated between different desktops (xterm would probably be included in all of them), the number of menu options per desktop would be greatly reduced, which will certainly make users happier.
Knoppix maxi version 4.0 is basically, more of the same. Same old Knoppix, more applications, same old bugs. It makes you wonder if this maxi version is just too much, too early.
