For example, some users have already added patches for clustering capabilities and custom drivers are also possible. My personal favorite was to add a bootsplash capability (http://www.bootsplash.org), allowing for graphics to appear during boot instead of just text. Really you could add anything that you can compile into a normal Linux kernelit's time to get creative!
