Ubuntu on Niagara

The Ubuntu development team has announced an Ubuntu version that will run on Sun Microsystem's much-vaunted Niagara processor.

While there is already a netbootable image available, Di Nitto says: “Sometime soon we'll have a CD installer for Sparc as well. This installer work uses D-I and so will be available in Debian in due course too.”

Sparc is not an officially supported Ubuntu platform, “but there is a lot of community interest in the work and we welcome your participation to help make Dapper a SPARC release that is widely usable,” says Di Nitto.
