Ubuntu has a very drawn-out validation process, on top of the fact that it appears they changed some of the paradigms of Debian that can make it very difficult to just use an existing Debian-specific package on Ubuntu.

My saga started as I was going to code my Joined DataTable blog entry using Mono and Linux. This should have been simple enough. I've read that MonoDevelop 0.11 supports .Net 2.0 features, and I assumed that since this was the latest “stable” release of MonoDevelop that I'd be good to go. I made sure everything was up-to-date in Synaptec and started MonoDevelop.
