Last weekend I ought to install etch on a desktop system that ran a different distribution to replace it. Before we could install a new system, the data of the old system had to be copied to another hard disk so that it could be re-used. For this, a USB disk was available.Since the old system did not recognise the USB disk it couldn't be used for the backup itself, so we ended up downloading the current Knoppix image to use. I was a bit surprised when I saw that Knoppix provided an icon on the desktop for sda but not for sda1 and, of course, couldn't mount sda. Manually mounting sda1 worked fine. Klaus explained that this may be a timing problem.
