(k)Ubuntu, fresh from the start

In the end, (k)Ubuntu, fresh from the start, is much like Windows. You need to install lots of softwares before you can get productive. Which, to my dismay, is not just the distro i was looking for. SimplyMEPIS, on the other hand, delivers just the right stuff at my hands.

I was dissappointed. I don't wan't to repeat the hassles myself when i decided to reformat my computer with Ubuntu, just the same ways as i did in Windows. There has to be a better alternative.
And there were lots to choose from. Finally i settled for SimplyMEPIS rather than PCLinuxOS because of its debian package compatibility. Plus, i know i will be having a hard time installing emulators on PCLinuxOS anyway. The (re)installation with SimplyMEPIS was as smooth as (k)Ubuntu, but there are a few things i noticed between the installation.
