To be fair to Dell at the outset, they are not pushing their Ubuntu machines as Windows replacements for computer illiterates.

I used the Dell Ubuntu laptop for a couple of weeks and I have mixed feelings about it.
Once I had it set up as I like it, it was a pleasant enough machine to use and fulfilled most of my daily computing needs.
However, I didn't enjoy the repeated fiddling needed to get the wireless networking to work, nor did I expect to have to go through so much initial trouble to fix the screen resolution.
There are simply too many complex issues which need addressing for me to recommend this as a machine for a Linux newcomer.
Experienced Linux users may, however, find themselves pleasantly surprised by the machine which, at this price, offers good value portable Linux computing.
