Remote desktop to Ubuntu 7.10 from Windows

When running an Ubuntu machine or server that makes use of a proper GUI, it may be easier for someone to remote desktop to that machine instead of using a secure shell application such as putty.

This can be achieved very easily using Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) and a Windows based VNC tool such as tightVNC. It should be noted that allowing remote desktop access may pose a security risk to your Ubuntu system.
