Open source load balancers fail on opening day digital museum
Last week's festive opening of Europeana, a EU funded digital library, was spoiled when its open source web servers crashed after getting three times the amount of requests they had been designed to handle.

The digital library is based completely on open source applications. All servers are running the Debian GNU/Linux distribution. On top of this is installed web server Apache, Java application server Tomcat, database management system Postgresql and search engine Solr.
