Debian 5 Wifi Installation FAIL
I also took my old computer and installed Debian 5 (Lenny) onto it so it could be the guest computer. While doing the graphical install, I wanted to connect it via the wireless connection. Unfortunately, it only would connect with WEP security during the installation. More here

I had a much worse experience with the debian 64 bit installer. It sees my Intel 5100 card, but fails to configure it via dhcp also fails static. After a wired install the wlagn module is loaded but for the life of me I can’t get wlan0 up. The sid package for wicd downloads and installs fine but gives python errors when running. EPIC fail for Debian. Ubuntu, Fedora, and OpenSuse 64 bit versions all configure my wifi right out of the box.
Hopefully the “custom wifi installer for eeePC” will make it’s way into netinstall/businesscard one of these days
