Debian-news is about one simple thing - news about Debian GNU/Linux and the top free distributions based on Debian GNU/Linux.

Mepis 8.0

SimplyMEPIS 8.0 arrives with a complete choice of the best of programs necessary for most people’s pleasure and productivity, all delivered on top of a Debian 5 stable core using the 2.6.27 Linux kernel. It must be some kind of advertisment, but it describes SimplyMEPIS

MEPIS is continually working to assure the fitness, finish, and overall quality of its products. We understand that computers should help you, not get in your way. We want your experience with SimplyMepis to be a totally positive one so that your work and play are enjoyable, your desktop works perfectly and everything looks seamless. MEPIS pursues that goal tenaciously, and that makes you the winner.

That “ad” may have come from the commercially supported version of MEPIS, but the same rings true for the free version SimplyMEPIS, which is, to the best of my knowledge, functionally identical. Both are available in 32 and 64-bit versions, and with Community Remasters like AntiX using IceWM, and Unofficial Remasters like Mepis-Gnome, MEPIS-DVD_Cano2 using KDE4, MEPIS-C targeted at developers and a MEPIS-LXDE version, chances are relatively high that you can and will find the right combination to fulfil your needs. You can find them under Package Sharing at the Mepislovers forum.
