SimplyMEPIS 8.0 arrives with a complete choice of the best of programs necessary for most people’s pleasure and productivity, all delivered on top of a Debian 5 stable core using the 2.6.27 Linux kernel.
I also took my old computer and installed Debian 5 (Lenny) onto it so it could be the guest computer. While doing the graphical install, I wanted to connect it via the wireless connection. Unfortunately, it only would connect with WEP security during the installation.
I wanted to write this blog post because it seems like everyone posts only one way to get that infernal system beep to go away in Debian. That of course would be to run ‘rmmod pcspkr’ to remove the pcspkr module right away and add ‘blacklist pcspkr’ to the /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist or /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf file.
