In a post on the debian-vote mailing list, Zacchiroli, also known simply as Zack, says that he believes that an election with only one candidate “is not healthy for democracy”, adding that “I’m open to the possibility of retiring, in order to restart the process and have more than one candidate in the actual election.”

In accordance with its constitution[0] the Debian Project has elected Stefano Zacchiroli as Debian project leader for the 2010/2011 term. Stefano has been a Debian Developer since March 2001 and is a long-term contributor to several core services such as Debian’s Package Tracking System and its Quality Assurance Team.

British developer Steve McIntyre has been re-elected leader of the Debian GNU/Linux project (DPL) for 2009-10. The contest for leader was a two-way affair this year, with McIntyre, who held the office in 2008-09, recontesting against Stefano Zacchiroli.
