Debian elections have, before this year, seen a minimum of three contestants (2002) and a maximum of eight (2007). So does this indicate that interest in running for leader has fallen off?
Two developers have entered the race for the Debian Project Leadership. New candidate Stephano “Zack” Zacchiroli is challenging current leader Steve McIntyre, who is running for a second term in office.

Hi, According to the constitution (5.2. Appointment), project leader elections should begin “six weeks before the leadership post becomes vacant, or (if it is too late already) immediately.”
