In the Debian popularity-contest numbers, the adobe-flashplugin package the second most popular used package that is missing in Debian. The sixth most popular is flashplayer-mozilla.

I have 42 updates this morning between the two computers on which I run Debian. These include a new kernel and updates for things ranging from cpio and tar to texlive to apt to openssl to gtk2.

swfdec-gnome is a very good Tool to play SWF files (Macromedia Flash) on GNOME. This package contains programs to integrate Flash functionality into the GNOME desktop.

On December 4th 2007, adobe introduced a new version of Flash. This version uses a new specification to embed plugin content. csant has a nice writeup about that. The problem here is that Opera’s stable branch (9.27 at the time of writing) doesn’t support this new way of embedding plugins.
