Another milestone for the Debian ecosystem and the Gnome 3.x desktop this weekend as the Debian unstable distribution (“sid”) completed it’s transition to Gnome 3.2.1, with the migration of remaining Gnome 3.2 packages to Debian “sid” including gnome-shell 3.2.1-8.

Debian Unstable (also known as sid) is one of the 3 distributions that Debian provides (along with Stable and Testing). It’s not conceived as a product for end-users, instead it’s the place where contributors are uploading newer packages.

For those who want the bleeding edge in Debian, sidux is for you. All the while, Linux Mint is contemplating on switching its code base from Ubuntu to Debian Testing. Well and good. It’s time for a great community distro like Linux Mint to step out of the shadow of Canonical and its commercial interests.

The X200 has no cd/dvd but can boot from USB. On the X200 BIOS settings, the USB disk boot option needed to be raised to be used first. Using F1 at boot gives access to the BIOS.

I realize it is pretty straight forward but I think it might help other who are having trouble. VirtualBox is still not perfect in the linux guest arena but its gotten a lot better over the past year since Sun apparently threw a bunch of money into it.

My new laptop has a Atheros wireless card AR242X. To setup on Debian with the non-free drivers is too easy.
